Hey again Today im going to post about famous cyclists and the races that they rode in. http://www.cyclinghalloffame.com/riders/alltime100.asp In this link you will find the top 100 cyclists of all time including photos and a biography on each rider. My all time favourite rider is Lance Armstrong. He inspires me because he won 7 tour de france races and he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996 and underwent serious measures to get him better. He then went on the win the Tour de france every year from 1999-2005 beating the previous record of 5 wins. He retired from racing in 2005 but returned in 2009 to race again and then retired again in 2011.

Bikies through time and new types of bikes

Hi again
I left you last time in the 1870's of bikes and now we move on.
It was in the 1890's when all the modern aspects of bikes came into reality like the cable brake and the  Derailleur. Bikes started to become what we see today during that time. The picture above is one of the first bikes of the early 20th century.

There are many types of bikes today and all serve a different purpose. I will list the popular types and what they are meant for.
1. All mountain/freeride bikes-these bikes are meant6 for all types of mountain biking for example downhill and cross country.
2. Downhill biking-these bikes are usually heavy and tough and equipped with heavy duty front and rear suspension and chunky tires because this bike is for speeding down over jumps and rocky terrain.
3. Road bikes-these bikes are very light and have no suspension. the reason is most roads are flat and can have lots of hills.
4. Bmx-this bike is small and light and most commonly used in jump parks to do tricks on.
5. Racing bikes-these bikes are amazing and are what proffesionals in the tour de france use. they are extremely light and aerodynamic.
6. Cyclocross-this bike is a mix between a road bike and mountain bike. Its has a road bike frame with mountain bike wheels. It is used an special made courses.
7. Cross country bikes- these bikes are light but strong and are used anywhere on a mountain. They are equipped with small suspension. They are very popular and fun bikes.

The first bike was created in 1817 and it was the German draisine.
From the 1820's to the 1850's many four wheeled pedal powered machines were made and called bikes.
During the 1850's Willard Sawyer successfully manufactured four wheeled bikes and exported them all over the world. The first very popular design was french made and was developed on 1863.
Then we move on to the classic big wheel "penny farthing". This bike was created in the 1870's.
This is a very well known bike as it is used in comedy sketches and cartoons due to its very funny frame shape.

In my next blog post I will talk about the more modern bikes and then move onto other aspects of bikes.
